I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you. My name is Irene Peters, and before West Valley, I taught for many years at Blue Hills Elementary in Saratoga, where I taught 3rd and 4th grade. This year marks my eleventh year at West Valley. Here, I have taught 2nd and 3rd grades.
I was born on the tiny island of Guam, but raised right here in the Bay Area and went to schools in the nearby district of Santa Clara Unified. I currently live in Mountain View with my husband, son, and daughter. You may find us frequenting many of the restaurants downtown. I tend to run into many WV families enjoying downtown Mountain View, so if you see me, please say hello. I have two teenagers, one at nearby Mountain View High School (who comes to help a lot) and one at UC Riverside.
Students constantly ask me to point out Guam on the map and are amazed at how tiny it is! The island life is still a massive part of me, and that is reflected in many of my likes and dislikes. My Hawaii-born and raised husband and I are still islanders at heart who miss the islands, enjoy the beach, and eat island cuisine! Students point out that our classroom decor is very beachy, and I tell them that it is beach-inspired.
Besides enjoying teaching and working with students, I enjoy painting, dancing, baking, cooking, shopping, reading, writing, traveling, and spending time with my family and friends.
I look forward to another great school year and getting to know my new students. Please feel free to stop by after school to say hello or send a note.
Mrs. Peters
