I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you. My name is Irene Peters and prior to West Valley, I taught for 16 years at Blue Hills Elementary in Saratoga where I taught 3rd and 4th grade. This year marks my tenth year at West Valley. Here, I have taught 2nd and 3rd grades.
I was born on the tiny island of Guam, but raised right here in the Bay Area and went to schools in the nearby district of Santa Clara Unified. I currently live in Mountain View with my husband, son and daughter. You may find us frequenting many of the restaurants downtown. I tend to run into many WV families enjoying downtown Mountain View, so if you see me, please say hello. I have two teenagers, one at nearby Mountain View High School and one who will be starting at UC Riverside.
Students constantly ask me to point out Guam on the map and are amazed at how tiny it really is! The island life is still a very big part of me and that is reflected in many of my likes and dislikes. My Hawaii born and raised husband and I are still islanders at heart who miss the islands, enjoy the beach, and eating island cuisine! Students point out that our classroom decor is very beachy and I tell them that it is definitely beach inspired.
Besides enjoying teaching and working with students, I enjoy painting, dancing, baking, cooking, shopping, reading, writing, traveling and spending time with my family and friends.
I look forward to another great school year and getting to know my new students. Please feel free to stop by after school to say hello or send a note.
Mrs. Peters
